Biography/Interests
Roger began his professional career as a high school teacher of chemistry, mathematics, and physics having received a Bachelor's Degree from Calvin College, and Master's Degree from Western Michigan University. After six years of high school teaching and coaching and with solid support from his wife, he returned to student life and received a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Wayne State University. He then joined the Photopolymer Division of DuPont as a Development Chemist and worked for them four years. In 1976 he joined Parke-Davis in Holland developing processes for candidate products and contract research and development for third parties. In that context, Dr. Brummel has been in a leadership position for the chemical process research and development of the active pharmaceutical ingredient for a number of commercial products including Benadryl, Neurontin, Accupril, Cerebyx, and Lipitor. He retired from Pfizer in 2001 as Vice-president of Chemical Development and in 2002 was appointed Professor of Chemistry at Calvin College. In 2004, he accepted the position of CEO/Director of Au Sable Institute of Enviromental Studies. Roger has 3 married daughters and six grandchildren. When not attending events and activities of the family, he enjoys volunteer work in the community and for the church, playing golf, softball, racketball, and ice hockey.
