Notes from Au Sable: Book Notes
Plain and Simple
Although not many Christians are willing to adopt the lifestyle of the
Amish and other "plain people," all can benefit from a collection
of essays from Plain, an Amish-Quaker-Luddite journal which seeks to
be a "bridge" between those traditions and the rest of society.
In The Plain Reader (Ballantine, 1998), Plain Editor Scott Savage writes, "
We
will naturally overthrow the reign of consumption in our lives when
we reconnect with God."
Contributors such as Gene Logsdon and Wendell Berry present insights
on how a simpler life can improve health, bring more fulfillment to work
and free us from dependence on technology and the media, making life
better for our families, communities and the environment.
