Winter 1999: Notes from Au Sable

Opportunities for 2000

Academic Program, a diversity of opportunities awaits students during the coming year. Current enrollments show an expected full house in January courses at the Great Lakes campus. Our India January course, Ecology of the Indian Tropics, will resume in 2001. Spring (May 10-30) is a wonderful time to experience the "Northwoods," at Great Lakes in Ornithology, Woody Plants or Natural History.

In Summer Session I (June 1-July 5), courses will be offered at the Pacific Rim, India and Great Lakes sites. New courses will include Alpine Ecology (Pacific Rim) and Forest Ecology (Great Lakes). Two new summer courses will take place in India. Birds and Mammals of South India and Tropic Mountain Ecology will focus on the biologically rich Eastern and Western Ghat Mountains. Cross-cultural experiences also will be integral to these courses.

In Summer Session II (July 11-Aug. 12), courses will be given at Pacific Rim, Great Lakes and in Kenya. A first-time offering at Great Lakes will be a special topics course, Ecological Issues in Science and Religion. Four courses will also be given at our wonderful location in Kenya. Please note the session dates are July 12-Aug. 9.

Of special note are the two one-week courses being offered at Pacific Rim: Ecotheology in the first session and Prairie Restoration Ecology in the second. These courses have credit and non-credit options.

For a complete description of these opportunities, see the Official Bulletin or visit the Au Sable web site.
