Winter 2001

Environmental Ethics for Christian High Schools
By Lisa Zinn

This winter Au Sable is offering a new program designed for Christian High Schools. Schools are invited to bring their students to Au Sable for a five-day environmental ethics seminar.

In addition to learning why Christian should care for the creation and the biblical principals for creation care, students will be challenged to examine issues in environmental ethics from a Christian worldview.

The program is designed to be interactive and engaging. Students will visit an organic farm, an old growth forest and logging museum, test the water quality of Big Twin lake through holes in the ice, participate in small group round table discussions, and more.

There will also be plenty of time for students to enjoy winter in the northwoods. We will provide opportunities for activities like cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, downhill skiing, and the Au Sable favorite, broomball. Schools as far away as Florida are planning to participate in the pilot program this winter. Next winter we will be running a full-scale program and there will be room for many new schools.

If you know of a Christian School that might be interested, pass this information along or contact Lisa Zinn (zinn@ausable.org), the High School Coordinator at Au Sable-Great Lakes for more information.
