Winter 2001

Summarizing 2001

This year our collegiate academic program served 198 students through four academic sessions at three campus sites: Great Lakes, Pacific Rim and Au Sable - India. Our Community Programs served 4357 students from approximately 38 schools in Michigan, and hundreds of people from the community surrounding our Pacific Rim campus. The Outreach office served graduate students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and fielded inquiries and provided materials to at least 180 members of the general public. Our recruiters visited approximately 20 colleges and fielded inquiries from many college representatives and students. We hosted the largest Academic Advisory Council meeting in the history of the Institute at Great Lakes campus, with 37 participants representing 27 colleges. And the Academic Program granted 12 certificates.

Significant milestones this year included the inauguration of web-based enrollment, the first class held on our Smith Prairie campus, and the completion of the two main academic buildings at that campus.

We did this with eleven full time staff, 32 faculty members, and varying numbers of part-timers and volunteers. Our total operating expenditures were $1,125,000. Income of $462,000 was received in tuition & fees, $31,000 in gifts and grants, and $636,000 as a grant from the Trust Fund. In addition we spent $142,000 for construction expenses at Smith Prairie.
