New Logo For Au Sable Institute

A few months ago I was talking with several fellow staff members and we came to the conclusion that Au Sable really needed a new logo that encompassed all of our campuses. We had “stumbled” across the maple leaf logo, quite literally in fact. We found the leaf outside the office in Michigan and scanned it. The leaf did a great job, but seemed to be too site specific, for example, would we find a maple leaf at Au Sable – Africa?

At Au Sable we have been extremely fortunate to have a dedicated alumna in our midst. Christi Sobel, a scientific illustrator, has given much time to Au Sable from painting murals to creating t-shirts. We once again asked her for her expertise in helping us create a new logo.

After a month of drawing, emailing and focusing, we have found the perfect logo! Au Sable’s new logo is a tri-color “landscape” showing the forward thinking of the Institute and its mission of stewardship. The abstract bracken fern fiddlehead represents the natural history at each site. In the future, we will be introducing different images in place of the fiddlehead for different programs. I hope you enjoy the “new look” of Au Sable.
