Great Lakes
Forest Study
Offered September and October
Appropriate Age Level: 5th - 7th Grade
The
major tree species that make up the Northwoods are identified. Students
make a herbarium collection to take home. How a tree grows and how environmental
factors affect its growth are studied through extracting and examining
increment bores. A forest walk with activity stops along the way help
students learn about the major recycling systems of air, water, nutrients
and energy. Students also learn that forests are not static places but
change over time. Basic
