Great Lakes

Michigan History
Offered October and November; April
Appropriate Age Level: 3rd grade - Adult

This unit demonstrates our dependency on our environment by taking students back in time when it was easily understood where our food, water, clothing and energy came from. Our costumed instructors help students through student participation to relive significant time periods in Michigan's history.

A time traveler escorts students along our time line trail. When students reach 1800 on our time line they join in the life of a busy voyageur trading post.

At 1900 Louie Sands' logging camp is entered. Students suddenly find themselves recruits in the new camp. Through these events, students experience the interface among the natural world, technology, and society. This program is only available at Au Sable Institute's campus. Environmental Dependency
