Environmental Education Program Great Lakes Water Quality This study compares the water quality of Big Twin Lake with that of Louie's Pond. Students take water samples and temperature readings through holes in the ice on both bodies of water. The students test the samples for pH and dissolved oxygen. Through use of microscopes, organisms collected from both Big Twin and Louie's Pond are compared. As students perform these tests and determine the trophic level of both bodies of water, they learn about factors which affect the quality of water in northern Michigan. Environmental Studies
