Heber Au Sable Institute offers a master of science degree in environmental science which includes a requirement for the college students to conduct research on appropriate technologies.

Some of these projects are the construction of a mud plastered straw house which functions as an Environmental Stewardship centre, rooftop gardening, a shade house for the growth of endangered medicinal herbs,and wastewater treatment by artificial wetland systems.
