Community Program
Our
community program serves community schools, environmental and community
organizations, and individuals through education, practical environmental
project participation, and provision of learning and meeting facilities.
K-12 Community Schools
Our K-12 Environmental Education Program at Great
Lakes provides education for 5,000 school children who gain environmental
knowledge in a curriculum of field studies that builds year-by-year through
the grades. Teaching units are designed to many of the State of Michigan's
science objectives. This program also serves as a laboratory school to
prepare college interns to teach in the field.
We also have an Environmental
Education Program at Heber Au Sable Institute.
Lecture Series, Short Courses & Restoration
Community lecture series, short-courses in environmental studies and
practical restoration ecology, and community participation in environmental
restoration projects are provided by the Institute at Great
Lakes and Pacific Rim.
