Ecology of the Indian Tropics
01/12/07

U of Mich - Dearborn student, Emily Johnson prepares to enjoy a local lunch on a banana leaf in the town of Attakatti, India.  This town is located in a moist tropical forest, and the name means "Leeches embrace you"!  Emily's hand is dyed in henna, which is a local tradition.  Eight college students from across North America and India were in Tamil Nadu, south India for three weeks studying the ecology of the region in Au Sable's annual course, in partnership with Bishop Heber College.  The students have seen wild elephants, the endangered and endemic Lion-tailed Macaque and much more.
