A Christian Land Ethic
Writer
and conservationist Aldo Leopold (A Sand County Almanac) called
for extending our sense of ethical obligation to include our relationship
with the land - the complex web of living and nonliving things that surrounds
and supports us. He termed this a "land ethic." On the centennial
of his birth, Christian scholars and scientists gathered at the Au Sable
Institute to ask: Can there be a Christian land ethic? What would
it be like? This conference explored these questions from a variety of
geographic and disciplinary perspectives: Africa, Europe, and the Americas;
theology and biblical studies, economics, education, and ecology.
