Honoring Harold Snyder

In 1956, Harold Snyder embarked on a mission to establish an outdoor camp that would focus on science and draw boys into a closer relationship with God. With the help of family and friends, Harold established the Au Sable Trails Camp for Youth which eventually became the Au Sable Institute. The guiding verse for the camp, which Harold still regularly recites, is Psalm 34:1, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

During his life, Harold has helped thousands of people better understand and appreciate God’s created world. While it was our intention to hold a public celebration this summer to honor Harold, it has been determined that the best option at this time is to hold a small, private celebration with Harold and his family.

If your life has been impacted by Harold, we ask you to consider sharing a note or letter to express appreciation to Harold and his life of service. The letters will be compiled and presented to Harold later this summer. Please send the letters to Jon Terry at jon.terry@ausable.org by Friday, July 19.

In addition, Harold welcomes gifts to Au Sable Institute in his honor. All donations made in honor of Harold will be dedicated to capital improvements on campus to better serve students and ensure that Harold’s legacy will endure for years to come. More info on giving a gift to Au Sable can be found on the “Donate” page of our website.

Thank you for joining us in celebrating Harold and for considering writing a letter or sending a gift to honor him.
