You're Invited: Community Event on Local Lake Water Quality

Join us for a public event to learn about an important new water quality initiative in our region.

This summer, Au Sable Institute collaborated with Ferris State University (FSU) to conduct E. coli testing at six area lakes. FSU received funding for this work through a grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and has partnered with Au Sable to carry out the weekly testing on the following local lakes: Log Lake, Manistee Lake, Pickeral Lake, Big Twin Lake, Starvation Lake, and Blue Lake.

At the event, representatives from Au Sable Institute, Ferris State University, District Health Department #10, and Michigan EGLE will share details about the project, how the testing works, and how the results will be used to protect our lakes and communities.

Why it matters:

County health departments across Michigan routinely test beaches for E. coli to determine if the water is safe for swimming. This project is part of a statewide effort to protect both environmental and public health. Learn why the state invests in water testing and how the health of our lakes directly impacts the health of our communities.
