Nina Grauley leads a field sketching workshop at the Great Lakes campus
After a successful May Session field sketching workshop, Au Sable was thrilled to host two additional workshops this summer at both the Great Lakes and Pacific Rim campuses. At the Great Lakes campus, alumna Nina Grauley returned to lead her third field sketching workshop, an event that drew an impressive 37 participants. Across the country at our Pacific Rim campus, Emma Nydam joined students as an artist-in-residence and guided 25 students, staff, and faculty through a reflective and engaging field sketching experience.

During her workshop, Emma reminded students that field sketching is rooted in observation, not perfection. She encouraged them to draw what they truly saw with curiosity, allowing their sketches to become records of learning rather than polished works of art. Her simple but powerful reminder invited students to slow down, pay attention, and notice the beauty all around in God’s good earth.
