Fun facts:

Unlike many other species of Liatris, Rough Blazing Star has rough, spiny, and needle-like leaves. These sharp leaves help it conserve water and survive in dry, tough prairie conditions by reducing water loss through evaporation.

Rough Blazing Star has a particular appeal to specialized pollinators, such as long-tongued bees and butterflies like skippers. These pollinators are especially attracted to its unique, tall flower spikes that provide rich nectar.
